The Westfjords
The remote northwest
Few visitors make it to the Westfjords. Roads wind around fjord after fjord, villages are tiny and the bird cliffs are among the largest in Europe.
In June and July the light lasts almost through the night, which is when the region is at its most beautiful.
Best season: Summer · [ 66° 04′ 30″ N, 23° 07′ 26″ W ]
Verify before launch: Some mountain passes close in winter; access windows to verify.
The remote northwest, where fjords cut deep into the land and the summer light hardly fades.

Experiences here
- Puffin watching
Sea cliffs alive with puffins in the brief nesting season, reached by private boat or a quiet clifftop walk.
- Whale watching
Private boat charters out of the northern fjords for humpbacks, minkes and, on rare days, blue whales.
- Helicopter flights
Over steaming fissures, glacier ice-fields and remote ridgelines, with private landings where the land allows.
